normally i would look away and call this fraud, because banks charge you to see what it is, so if a respected company cant do it for free, why should a unheard of company be legal.
but for years there have been a couple of companies with commericals on tv showing free credit scores reports. so if they where fruadulant companies they would be shut down by now.
so has anyone tried this?, has anyone found any small print, or catch to these?
they have to be making money to fund the commercials, where does this come from? the government?

Matt, there are 3 main credit reporting agencies out there would be one of the safer ones to go with. Equifax, Experian, & TransUnion.
My parents have used some of the services and found you have a fee to actually get the credit score. They do normally give you the report for free, but the calculation of that into the score, you will probably have to pay for.

thanks.
i also heard that getting your credit score checked 3 or more times a month looks bad, what you think on that
i also heard a company can't run your credit without your permission, and that if they run your credit, if you request them to give you the info on your credit score then they have to provide it to you, is that true?

| a hit checking your credit, can impact the score a little bit. If someone is constantly checking your credit, like every week, it can mess up your credit some, becuase it does show on the report. The suggested interval is once every 6 months. It's also going to show who put the request in, so if you did check it 3 or 4 times in a year, I doubt it would do much to it, since it would show you were the one checking.

My girlfriend signed us up at Freecreditreport.com when we were looking into buying our house. The first report is free and pretty useful, but if you dont cancel within that month you get charged $15 a month for the service. You have to jump through a whole bunch of hoops to cancel the service too. They try and get you to hold onto the account for a cash rebate ("call back in 10 days once you get your MasterCard rebate"). You have to give all sorts of information (current address, SS#, phone number, mother;s maiden name) over the phone to a person who doesnt sound to trust worthy.
Its not something I would recommend to anyone.
